Museo Casa Roja/The Red House Museum in La Palma
The Red House Museum is located in a stately home from the beginning of the 20th century. It consists of two floors, and the first is the one used as the Corpus Christi Information Centre , which displays all kinds of reproductions, documents, illustrations and photographs alluding to this Festival, so culturally rooted in the town of Mazo. The placement of arches, carpets and corridors in its main streets is noteworthy, highlighting the artisan character of Mazo.
Natural products are used to display rich colors in various artistic forms for the simple act of offering to the Blessed Sacrament. This is the only museum in the State dedicated to the Feast of Corpus Christi.
The Embroidery Museum is located on the upper floor , offering a wide variety of this craft, which occupies a very prominent place in the municipality. Embroidery and openwork have been the basis of La Palma craftsmanship throughout the 20th century. There are three types of embroidery that are most common on the island of La Palma: Richelieu (popularly known as Rechi), raised stitch and lost stitch. In addition to those mentioned, other types are also made, such as backstitch, brick stitch, wheat stitch, knot stitch, loop stitch, herringbone stitch, etc. This traditional work is applied to typical costumes, tablecloths, church ornaments, household items and other uses that bear witness to a unique form of expression that we have inherited and that identifies us.
