La Palma wildfire continues to burn out of control

Firefighters are still tackling the wildfire on the island of La Palma, as the blaze continues to burn out of control on the Canary Island.

Officals on the island have said however that the conditions for fighting the fire are improving, as warm and windy weather is starting to ease, making the efforts of over 500 firefighters easier.

Yesterday it was confirmed that over a dozen aircraft were involved in tackling the wildfire.

The fire is currently in parts of the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, as well as near to the towns of Puntagorda and Tijarafe.

Guardia Civil have said investigations into the cause of the fire are pointing towards “human carelessness”.

So far this year over 73,000 hectares of land has been destroyed across Spain due to wildfires.
